Hello everyone!
If you are looking for the ultimate in grassroot campaigns, this is it.
FreeGovernment.org is a nonprofit and open source project based out of Boston. FreeGov strives to give citizens a voice all the time. Through online polling, forum and group participation, bill drafting, and more users have many avenues to express what they believe in. Republican, Democratic, Green, Unaffiliated, and everything in between, this site is for everyone.
FreeGov is also searching for applicants to run as a candidate for Representative of the 8th Congressional District of MA. The candidate will be bound by contract to serve no more than a proxy for the people--meaning a candidate with no hidden agendas, no other motives but to serve as a voice for the PEOPLE including you in Congress.
However, there is a challenge. To put our candidate on the ballot, we will have to obtain 2,000 signatures from registered voters in the 8th Congressional District. This is not going to be easy--we need your help in making history. Help us organize teams to get the needed signatures. To get involved, contact the FreeGov team at takeaction@freegovernment.org. |

I recently posted questions for every one asking how to make sure my food doesn't go bad, and you all gave me great tips! I have been throwing out almost no fresh foods.
However, new problem! My entire life I have kept potatoes in some cupboard and they have been fine for quite some time. However, at my current apartment, I have had a bag of potatoes go moldy. I honestly didn't remember how long they were in there so I just chalked it up to that.
But then this week I see that some sweet potatoes I have left on my counter after only a week have molded!!! Before some I'd put in the cupboard had molded and I thought leaving them out on the counter was a better idea but apparently not. To be fair I think that my apartment (on the third floor) can get fairly humid, but seriously, what should I do?! Should I actually be refrigerating them?! Should I just buy one at at time..?
It just makes me angry to feel like I'm actually TRYING and still have to throw things out :) |

So, here's a question. Is anyone going to the Dropkick Murphys/Mighty Mighty Bosstones show in Portland, ME this Friday (July 11th) and wants some company/gas money there and back?
(And we'd be leaving from Boston, so it's totally an on topic post!) |

| Cell phone providers..Who's the best?? |
[Jul. 6th, 2008|06:03 pm] |
Okay, b0st0nites, here is my tale of woe:
I just moved from Somerville to Arlington Heights and while everything has been going swimmingly, there is one major problem: I don't get cell phone reception in my apartment! I've currently got Sprint, who I should have dropped years ago but stupidly stuck by, and I'm considering transferring my account to my parents and getting a new provider.
My question to all of you: Which company have you found to be the most reliable/have the best reception? I checked the memories, but the last posting on this was from 2005.
Thanks! |

Sorry to be OT but was it this community where people were talking about the Salmon Bot a few months ago?
It finally happened to me and now I'm really intrigued. Does anyone have the latest information on wtf it's purpose is? Was there not a place where I can go and log the particular screen name used etc.?
At least I made a new friend with it's help. |

| Best Protein Bars! Cheap, too, please. |
[Jul. 6th, 2008|01:04 pm] |
So I've been working out pretty hard lately (thank you Wii Fit!) and my body went retarded. Upon consoltation from my doctor, I need to eat protein bars to replace all the vital nutrients I burned while working out... Something to that effect anyway.
So here are the requirements, in order of priority: 1. Low fat and high protein. I'd like protein to be 10g or more, and fat to be 5g or less, preferable a 2:1 ratio of protein to fat, but the less fat the better!
2. Price. I really don't want to spend more than one dollar per bar. (including stuff in boxes)
3. Veganness. I won't eat any meat-y type protein bars, so no slimjims, but if there are trace amounts of milk in it, I am ok. It's hard enough finding something to fit my requirement, so I'm a little lax on this. Just, no milkshakes or anything where one of the first 5 or so ingredients are dairy or eggs.
Thanks in advance for suggestions, and I would highly recommend Wii Fit if you're looking to get healthy but hate the gym/too hot outside/[insert other excuse here]. :) |

| Martial Arts |
[Jul. 5th, 2008|03:53 pm] |
I've been trying to get back in shape now that I'm done with the College. Only working 40 hours a week, instead of 30 hrs, 4 classes, and 16 hours of internships a week leaves me with LOTS of free time that I don't know what to do with. (I'm already biking, and once I start getting paychecks going for a scuba diving certification.)
My question is, which/where would be the best martial art, (and studio that practices it in the area), that would be good for someone looking mainly to get into shape? Or maybe some other interesting activities that might be lots of fun and help me get into shape? Already looking into BUDA. Anything else? Lifting weights and running on treadmills do not appeal to me. |

| Blue bins? |
[Jul. 5th, 2008|12:35 pm] |
|
So our blue recycling bins keep magically disappearing for whatever reason and we are currently without any at all. Seeing as we like to do our part and recycle as much as we can, this is an issue. I already found this site on the City of Boston's main page and emailed the address it gave for bin requests. So why am I posting here as well? Well this is the third time that I have emailed them about this and I'm not too optimistic about receiving a response of any kind since the first emails went ignored. So, kind denizens of Boston...if you needed a replacement blue bin in the past, how did you go about doing it? A friend of mine said something about how he had to go somewhere to show proof of residency and they gave him one there. He couldn't for the life of him remember where though so I am just left with a faint glimmer of hope on being able to recycle again. |
